allies to make sure that our troops are getting the kind of strategy and mission they deserve. >> senate majority leader harry reid foos feels that the republicans are more concerned about their futures than what's best. >> nothing is going to change in the next ten days in the qualifications of chuck hagel. the ability to run for senate as a republican in most places in the country you need to have a resume that says filibuster one of the president's nominees. this shouldn't be politics. >> republicans argue that it's all part of the process. it's not uncommon to uphold c confirmation of one of the president's nominee. >> reporter: it isn't the filibuster.

will likely to vote to end it. hardly the only political split playing out in washington. spending cuts go into place in two weeks. unless they go into sequestration. >> we're going to insist that they finally pass a plan to replace the president's sequester, this sequester was the president's idea, his party needs to follow through on their plans to replace it's time for the senate to do their work. if they're willing to pass a bill we'll find some way to work with them to address this problem. >> would you rather see the

sequester kick in rather than includes some tax deal? >> when the senate passes a plan we would be happy to take a look at it. >> president obama has called on congress to pass a smaller package of spending cuts to delay the sequester, with damaging effects on our economy. now to debate on guns. the nra has delivered its official response to the president's state of the union. wayne la pierre accused the president of being a hypocrite yesterday. >> it was only a few weeks ago when they were marketing their antigun agenda as a way of protecting school children from harm. that charade ended at the state of the yuan, when the president himself exposed their fraudulent intentions.
